Week of August 26th

Today in class we started with an introduction of what we will be learning in this course. Most of us took the first portion of this course last semester so it was similar conversations. We started talking about the importance of teaching science and how it benefits students.  We went over the question, why should elementary students learning about science? Towards the end of the class we were asked to think about a certain scenario where we would have to analyze a certain race. In the race we had to alter the times of which each racer would be allowed to start so that the two people racing would have an even chance of winning. I find when we do experiments in this class to be very helpful as we have to learn how to have the answer or push our students thinking for the future.

Today in lecture we further looked into the idea of motion. We talked about formulas such as S=d/t and learned how to use these formulas in certain word problems and what each steps mean/looks like. The main question we went over was, How can we support play that is exciting but not dangerous? Here are some key takeaways we found:

From the pressbook this week, I learned deeper into position and distance. I thought the pressbook was very helpful as it explained a little more than we talked about in lecture. The pressbook also talked more about velocity and what it means, including how to measure velocity which was very helpful. I didn't have any questions this week from the pressbook, and felt good after reading it/don't need more information!
